Scan by hand
At ScanCorner, all the images are scanned by hand. Most of the scanning companies run automated processes to remove scratches. These are effective only to a certain extent. At ScanCorner, each and every image is cleaned manually, scanned, checked for any scratches and if scratches are present, are removed manually by a team of expert technicians. We also perform color correction and granularity minimization. So, you can be assured that our scans are of the highest quality in the market.
Resolution

At ScanCorner, we scan at an optimal resolution of 3000 dpi for negatives & slides and 600 dpi for photos. This value is an optimal copromise between quality and file size. Pictures digitized at these settings are sharp enough for magnification and printing and not too large for practical handling as in viewing, copying and moving. Please contact us if you would like us to scan your pictures at another resolution than our standard. We scan at a resolution of up to 4000 dpi for negatives and slides and up to 600 dpi for photos.
Estimated file sizes:
Filetype: JPG / TIF
1300 dpi: 0.7 MB (JPG), 6MB (TIF)
3000 dpi: 3.5 MB (JPG), 30 MB (TIF)
4000 dpi: xx MB (JPG), xx MB (TIF)
Scratch Removal

Negatives, slides and printed photos get scratches very easily. These scratches and dust won’t be visible to human eye, but when scanned and enlarged, these scratches become visible. We try to minimize the scratches by cleaning the negatives before scanning them. Since this removes only a fraction of scratches, we employ digital ICE while scanning the image - a proven scratch removal technology from NIKON. Sometimes there are still scratches left post Digital ICE scanning. We manually remove those scratches using Adobe Photoshop. With B&W negatives and slides, Digital ICE won’t work and in that case we do the scratch removal manually.
Red-eye Removal

We remove red-eye from the photos we scan. As with scratch removal, we do this by hand. Our highly qualified technicians go through the pictures to see if there is some red-eye and if it is present, will be corrected by hand.
Color Correction

Negatives, slides & images color changes over time. An essential aspect of scanning at ScanCorner is restoration of the original color. Many companies run automated processes to do the color correction but at ScanCorner we ensure each and every image is manually checked for the right color combination. If we have an impression that post scanning, the color combination is not appropriate, we use Adobe Photoshop tools to restore the original color.
